The Struggle to Save Philly's Libraries
December 01, 2008 02:18 PM PST
Philly residents around the city are mobilizing to say no to mayor Nutter's plan to close eleven public library branches. About a month ago, the mayor announced drastic budget cuts to make up for a shortfall in revenue of 180 million dollars in this fiscal year, and a projected 1 billion dollar budget shortfall over the next five years. The mayor is cutting back on other basic services, including firefighters, police and youth services, as well as closing down pools and homeless shelters. A report by Milena Velis |
