In 2006, the Philadelphia Parking Authority mandated that GPS systems be installed in all of Philly's taxicabs. Aside from questions about the PPA's contract with Taxitronics for the GPS units -- Taxitronics had their GPS contract with the City of New York revoked after a government investigation uncovered corruption in how Taxitronics won the lucrative contract -- there are persistent problems with the GPS units.
